A Right Royal Relay in Romsey!

Organised by the Rotary Club of Romsey, the Romsey Relay Marathon takes place each year on a 1.3‑mile course around the scenic Broadlands country estate. This year, 94 teams participated including many who had competed in previous years, however the event was a first for the Wessex team. The route took the runners past the famous Broadlands house, a royal residence to this day, known for hosting royal honeymoons for the likes of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, as well as the Prince and Princess of Wales.

On the morning of the race, the temperature rose quickly, and by the time the starting gun went off at 10am it was already a very hot day. Undeterred by the heat, and spurred on by the many supporters, Team Wessex battled through and conquered the 26.2-mile distance in just 4 hours – something that as a team of fairly inexperienced runners we are very proud of!

Wessex’s chosen charity for the event was Young Dementia UK, an Oxfordshire-based charity that aims to help people whose lives are affected by young-onset dementia. The charity does amazing work, offering support for people diagnosed with young-onset dementia, as well as their families and friends, through a community called the Young Dementia Network.

We are delighted to announce that with your help, Team Wessex has raised a fantastic total of £1,262.38. Every penny goes to Young Dementia UK: “Your support is vital to help us to give younger people with dementia every opportunity to live their lives to the full.”

Team Wessex would like to say a huge thank you for everybody’s support!

Time to start training for next year!
